Trying to trap a mystery wrasse

I’m struggling to catch my mystery wrasse. I have been trying to catch it with “The Trap” by Ultralife. He is the only fish that doesn’t get close to the trap.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

give it some time. It took me 3 days of not feeding the tank than abought 4 hrs to catch mine with shrimp in the trap.

Yup...not feeding except IN the trap, a little food witholding, and patience = successful trapping, IME.

Yes, I have to be patient. At least I can watch the Olympics at the same time.

why are you trying to trap him? Just curious

I'm trying to catch him because he has become aggressive towards other wrasse I introduced.

I've had better success with a small water bottle with the end cut off an inverted. Once I had to catch a six line, and the other was a mystery. Both were caught in about 10 minutes. I did use a hacksaw to cut off the threaded end of the bottle, just below the little lip, to make it less visible. I doubt what I am describing makes any sense, but if you can picture it, it works!

Yes, they do. My only problem is selectivity. With a fish trap you can keep the wrong fish from entering, with a bottle trap, you will catch whatever wants to go in.

Almost

Almost

I almost caught him last night. I had him in the trap but the trap door got stuck. After that, practically every other fish in the tank went in the trap except for him.

I'm pretty sure I'll catch him tonight.

I finally caught him!

I finally caught him!

It took me around 6 tries to catch him. I spent many hours of holding the string in my hand while watching the Olympics. On the last day I placed the trap lower in the tank. Within 5 minutes he went in the trap to chase another wrasse. This time the door did not jam and I caught him.
