TTM for inverts and corals?

This issue came up on a local forum, and I wanted to ask the folks here.

How do you quarantine inverts and corals? I used TTM on my fish and let the tank go fallow earlier this year to combat ich. I'm currently using TTM on what will likely be my last fish. I don't want to deal with ich again.

During TTM, it's recommended to get little to no water (impossible, since the fish is wet!) from one TTM tank to the next TTM tank for fear of contamination. I know the parasite attaches to fish, but the cyst drops into and lives in the water column and on substrate/objects, right? That's why you're supposed to avoid getting water from one TTM tank to the next TTM tank and also let everything dry out before using it again?

So, should I be using TTM on all future inverts and corals to be 100% safe? Is quarantine alone any good without TTM?

TTM only works for fish since it targets the protomont stage. For inverts, 72 days observation would be the appropriate course of action.

Ah, duh! That's why it works to just leave the display tank fallow for 72 days. Not sure why I didn't make that connection right away. I feel stupid!

I don't get the 72 days.... is this because the coral might have ich on it? Where does 72 days come from ?
