Hello and good moring to you other night hawks.

Were getting a tube anemone tomorrow ( today i guess). My wife and i set up a eclipse 12 gallon with a six inch sand bed. Light will be daylight and a set of Blue LED's. My question is will the nem be happy in a tank devoted to just them ? No fish in there yet. Just the new sand and Cycled rock from our other tanks.

So think the nem will grow to big ?? Can they touch each other ? How potent is there sting ?

Ok, a few things you should know.

1. Tube anemones do not host any type of fish.

2. Tube anemones do not use the light for anything, they are non-photosynthetic. So they will need to be fed at least every 3 days. You would be better off feeding daily.

3. When full grown, they have 12 inch tentacles, so they can span a 2 foot area.

4. In a tank that small, the fish won't be able to avoid it very well when it gets bigger, so they will end up getting stung.

Not being mean, but you should know what you're getting into.

Yea i knew that. LOL I think that once there full grown only a clown would survive in there.

The tank is just for tubes the only lighting it has is a pair of blue led "nightlights"

The tube nem we got is bleaced but eating well. THe guy i bought it from said his person had it under MH for some reason. SO im guessing it will take some time but it should regain its color. As of now its tan with a brown mouth. It should be purple with a neon green mouth. :sad2:

When the anemone is full grown, it's tentacles will be almost twice the width of the tank, and the tube will likely extend 4-8 inches above the sand. I would think that a 12 gallon would be fine for now, but forever.

As far as being bleached, a "bleached" anemone is one that has expelled all it's symbiotic algae. Since tube anemones don't have any symbiotic algae for processing light, I can't imagine how one would get bleached. I have 2 that are white with green mouths, but I know mine are supposed to be white. I have never heard of one with a brown mouth so you got me on that one. Good luck with it, and please post pics of it's recovery.

The guy i got it from said it was purple when he got it. Ill post some pics soon. It shure does have a good feeding responce tho.
