Tumors on Vlamingi

Yesterday I noticed my Vlamingi developed a large tumor on its side of its body. I also noticed that his fins are frayed as well. I believe part of my aqua-scape collapsed on him and that what is caused the damage.

Does anyone know how I can treat this fish? Should I put him in QT?

He was in perfect health 2 days ago and the other tangs in this tank are acting normal as well.

The first picture, it looks really bad, the second pic, not as bad. Looks like a fungal or bacterial infection on a large wound. Being such a massive infection, I would remove and treat him with an appropriate medication. If you can, get better pics for a better diagnosis.

Did this develop overnight? If so, that's a good thing as I think a tumor develops over time, whereas a fungal infection can set in quickly like this. Beautiful fish. I hope you can turn him around.

Also wanted to add that based on where it is located and the short time to develop, he could have possibly injured himself on rock opening a vulberable site for bacteria infection and fungus--it really looks fungal though.

Thanks for the replys, but unfortunately the fish didn't pull through. I'm guessing it was some kind of infection since it did happen overnight and I did noticed some of the rockwork collapse. It's a shame though, it was a fantastic fish.

Really sorry you lost him.....what an amazing fish you had there. Definitly on my short list of "must haves" at some point in my life.

I had one that was 20" long I just lost him when we lost power because of the hurricane at the end of August. Very sad I had him for 10 years. Awesome fish!!!

That's aweful! Sorry for the loss. Do you mind if I ask how long your power was out?

I saw a gorgeous Vlamingi at the LFS today--it was about 6-7 inches and $95. I thought of your loss and how devistating it is. Yeah, you can replace him, but still...........

Yea its tough to try to replace him, but after that one, Vlamingis are must have fish for large tanks to me. They pretty much act like aqua puppy dogs.
