Tunicates

How to keep them alive and if its possible in a regular reef tank.

I know a couple people on here have em, what kind of care do they need, feeding, light.

I have a bunch of little purple ones. To be honest I don't think anyone knows how to keep them. Most have not been sucessful. personally, I believe you need an NPS system and lots of phyto.

A couple weeks back there was a guy on here and he showed off pictures of his tunicates, they were sorta gray with yellow lines. My lfs got those same ones in and thought i would read up on em a bit before i made a purchase.

Does anybody have the link to that thread i cant seem to find it, he was talking about how the algae was competing with the tunicates so he turned off the lights and let them all grow and stuff like that

He was vodka dosing without a skimmer and using the tunicates to "eat" the bacteria. The tunicates looked really good. Eventually he started using a skimmer it seems, due to cyano issues. No updates on how this affected his tunicates though.

I believe the tunicates in the link uhuru posted go by the scientific name of Polycarpa aurata. Common names I've seen them called are Ink Spot Tunicate, Ink Spot Sea Squirt, Ink spot Ascidian.

I know there are fotosyntetic tunicates but I have never seen them on the trade, even on living rock. When you do snorkel there are many of these fotosyntetic ascidiand attached to rocks directly getting the sunlight.

Do you have info about those tunicates that are fotosyntetic?

I've still got the polycarpa aurata and they are still looking great, but since using a skimmer on and off they haven't grown so much, I also have two other species as well and all seem to prefer less skimming. Cyano issue almost gone now so I'm using the skimmer less and less and still dosing vodka although infrequently.
