Tunze 1073.040 making Crackling noise

I have a Tunze 1073.040 that I cleaned up nicely and placed in storage for a long time.

I went to fire it up today and it runs well minus a crackling noise. It sounds sort of like rice crispies. Here's a video of the sound. (Hope this is allowed?)

I inspected the impeller and it looks good. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like just air in the pump, small air bubbles tend to stay trapped in the pump for up to a few days and eventually purge out, the only way I have found to immediately alleviate that is to assemble it under water.

Usually the main thing I see on stored pumps is salt dried in the pump can seize them up, it happens on my salt water mixing pump unless i store it wet or run it in freshwater before putting it away, they won't start at all then, so I think this is just some air inside, it sure sounds like it.

Thank you very much guys. I hope that is the issue, I will go and assemble it under water now and report back.

@Munster49 I did run it in a water/vinegar solution hoping that it would help, but it did not. Hopefully it's just air like Roger says.
