Tunze 5017

It needs to fit and also be the correct voltage and amperage, 9-12V and at least 1200mA, this part is readily available, Amazon stocks them, our part 5012.010.

My unit isn't working properly now. It didn't top off when it was supposed to. It looked like there was no power to the control panel but when I manually added water to the sump it seemed to adjust itself. But then it was not reliable. Not sure what it's doing. Do I need a new controller or something??

How old is it, what lights show on the display? If you have a green light when level and no lights when low, this means something is wrong at the pump, a bad pump, corroded pump connection. If you disconnect the pump and the yellow light comes back for a a low water level, all you need is a new pump. If it does not, that is a bad sign it generally means it ran in this condition for an extended time and a transistor burned out.

OK, but when it is low, does it stay green or do you get a yellow light or no lights?

If low and:
Green light- bad or dirty sensor
Yellow Light- bad pump if no water is being pumped
No light- bad pump or damaged circuit board

Ok, sorry but I'm getting confused with all these colors being that I'm color blind. Anyways, thanks for bearing with me. I went out and bought a new pump and it seemed to work for a while but it doesn't seem right. I plugged it in and it started to fill until it reached the level point and shut off. so far so good. A few hours later I looked at it and there is no lights lit up at all on the controller. I lowered the sensor and a light lit up(the level marker light). So I mounted the sensor back up and all the lights went off on the controller. Hmmmm. I did buy a new power source to power this controller. Do you think this has anything to do with it? I bought it from Best Buy. It's a multi power AC adaptor. The plug fits and the volts are adjustable up to 12v. I couldn't find anywhere else to buy one. Does any of this help?

Update.. Now, 1/2 hour later, the water too low is flashing. It's not trying to pump any water either. Is the whole thing bad?????

Tunze 5017 not working properly

Tunze 5017 not working properly

Hello everyone,

I have a Tunze 5017 Osmolator , when the pump is suppose to turn on it isn't turning the pump on, the pump seems like it kicks on quickly, then it turns off, I am not sure if this is the pump or if it is the controller. I do notice that I keep getting oxidized connections to the pump.

Any recommendations?

sohal- it is very difficult to say without knowing more, the age in particular. If the power supply is less than 1200mA their is not enough power to keep the controller running after the pump turns on, somewhere on the power supply it should have the mA or Amp rating. If the controller is more than 6 years old, it is a much older board design and may not be compatible with newer pumps but that is something that can generally be resolved.

italquam- the controller only allows the pump to draw 1200mA (800mA before 2008) and any corrosion of the connectors, a failed pump or oxidized wiring can push it past this safety limit.

Hi Roger,

Any idea why the wires keep oxidizing from the controller? There is only so may times you can keep cutting them back before you run out of real estate

One reason I am so curious is that , I am debating to switch to a different company for ATO, I don't want this to keep happening

It would not be related to the age though in a current unit the wiring is plated copper so this would be far less likely. The stock connectors at this time were a european terminal connector, wire nuts don't generally work well as they trap any moisture and another issue can be that they usually have a steel spring inside and this can create a galvanic reaction. The wire can be replaced outright by unsoldering it from the board and soldering in a new one.

I stripped the wires and it seems to be working now.
Should I use electrical tape rather than wing nuts.

Also, I know you said it can be 'resoldered if wire gets short, what kind of wire do I buy to replace it or does Tunze sell a replacement wire I can buy??
