What is the average lifespan of a 6055? In the last year I have had the shaft come loose from the motorblock on 3 separate pumps, the most recent this past weekend. In that same time the power supplies for 2 of thoes three pumps have stopped working randomly. I have cleaned the pumps regularly and the power supplies were never mistreated. I purchased 2 of the pumps used but in good condition about 2 1/2 years ago and the other about a year later. The entire time they have been run on the single controller or 7096 multicontroller. Is this normal wear and tear on these pumps or am I just really unlucky? Thanks.

In general we expect an electronic motor to have a useful service life of at least 5 years. The power supplies are a consumable and are expected to last about 3 years. Typically the shaft pulls out when lime builds up between the shaft and the propeller, this can only be effectively cleaned when the pump is disassembled, vinegar/water will not penetrate the small space between the shaft and drive unit effectively. You want to remove the drive unit, then soak the motor block and drive unit as separate pieces in 50/50 vinegar and water for a few hours. If you send them in, we can repair them, though repair of a pulled shaft generally involves a new motor block, it is still cheaper than buying new. The 6055 came out in June 2007 so some older units are nearing the end of the expected motor life. Other factors that can affect life span include power surges and particularly for the power supplies, exposure to ambient temps above 80F and greater than 70% humidity, for example if they are all stacked or near ballasts or other hot items.
