Tunze 6055s Placement

Hi,

I need some advice on placement of 2 or 3 tunze 6055s for best possible flow for an all sps build.

Here is a picture of my tank and what I am working with. The tank is a 50 gallon custom (36x18x18). The overflow is in the back right corner.

The return provides about 500gph and will be directed toward the bottle left of the tank.
As mentioned above I have 3 6055s to work with but would love to only use 2 if possible. I have 3 original 6055 shrouds as well as 3 modded 6055 shrouds for wider and more flow. I will be using the apex controller but I understand and know that you will not provide support on that matter. I am looking for just proper placement and maybe advice on which shrouds to use for my tank. Keep in mind that I am also willing to buy the 6095 shrouds to replace my modded ones if necessary to. I just want the best flow I can without having to buy more pumps.

I appreciate any support you can give.
Thanks, Jared

I would just use 2. I don't know enough about your mod or the pattern it produces, The 6095 front housing will generally make the pattern of a 6055 much wider but also much shorter, the velocity will be very low at 3ft away, and I was fairly pleased with stock 6055's in my comparable 58 gallon running at 24V. I used one in each corner aimed to hit the front about 24-30" away. Since your overflow is in one corner you will need to have one in front of the overflow instead of all the way back in the corner. What controller are you using?

I will be using the Apex controller. I used it before with the 6055s but never got completely into it. I prefered the 7096 controller, much easier to set up.

Ok about the voltages on the power supplies. I thought those were only for batter back up. I have always put my selector switch on 12 volts just because I never knew it made a difference. You telling me all these years it actually did. LOL! How silly am I?

Ok, so 2 6055s, 1 in the back left corner and one in front the of overflow (back right corner)? Angle them down and away towards opposite ends of the tank correct?

The mods I made for a set of 6055 shrouds were cutting the intake screen to allow a bit more water through to the propeller and cutting off the guard on the inside as well as shortening the "snout" on the front.

24V will double the flow. I would angle them straight across from a 6" below the water level and aimed at the front 24-30" away (diagonal). If the sand is disturbed you can slightly angle upwards.

I would alternate the pumps so one is at 30% while the other pulses 30-100% and after 6 hours they switch off.

Ok, one final question hopefully.

I've got the program set up and running: My left 6055 runs for 4 hours at 30% and my right pulses between 100% and 30% for 4 hours, then they switch.

My question is about the pulsing pump. How many seconds should I set up the pulse for. How long should 100% be run vs 30% in order to get some nice random flow. Currently I have 15 seconds of 100% and 8 seconds of 30%. Any suggestions to improve my timing?

The point of pulsing is to simulate the collision and washing of waves, basically fast flow crashing into slow flow mushrooms out the overall spread. I would do 30% for 3-5 seconds and 100% for the same. Slower is less effective and faster prevents the pumps from fully accelerating and decelerating.

Last question for sure this time.

Should I run a night program and set both pumps at 30% or just keep it on this rotation of 30-100% and 30%?

Keep it on that rotation 24/7. Night mode is really only useful if the aquarium is in a bedroom and the noise is a problem.
