Tunze 6101 vs Vortech MP40

Gonna increase the flow in my 60 gallon sps tank and I am having a hard time deciding which...... what are the opinions around here?

i am using two vortech MP40's in my 70 and i love them. tremendous flow, small in tank footprint and while not noiseless, very silent. i've not owned a tunze 6101 so i can't comment on them and would have seriously considered them if not for their large size and my small tank size.

The 6101's pulse as well with a 7095 controller. In a 60 gallon tank I would probably lean more towards the Vortech, just simply because of the footprint.

get the vortech its perfect for that sized tank, has wider flow and takes up 1/3 the tank space with no cord

I had a vortech and went back to Tunzes because I found it to be noisy. I am kinda picky when it comes to noise- and my display tanks are dead silent. That beong said, if I had a smaller tank- I would again consider a vortech or the tunze nano streams- the 6055 is fully controllable.

tunze

had vortechs and went back to tunzes
Same here.

so even though the vortech has a smaller foot print in tank and more flow per head, you went with the tunze. what about space in tank for grow out and how noisy are these MP40's more than the tunze which I have and they do make noise (not much though)?

I owned tunzes for 3 years had one prop break $30.00
that's the only problem I had

owned vortechs for 4 months (they fell off once or twice a month and broke one of my favorite acros in side the tank)
my vortechs were noisy

also i figured the controller was like a real controller not just 4 setting

The Vortechs were smaller in the tank, bigger outside of the tank. One end of my tank is very visible, and I didn't like the look of the motor and the large wire.

The killer for me was the noise. Way louder than the Tunzes. I sent them back and they sent me a new set. Just as noisy as the first.

I didn't like the controller either. Nowhere near as nice as the Tunze 7095

The other thing to consider is positioning, mounting options. You have a lot more options with the Tunzes.

seems to be big tank tunze smaller tank vortech thats the way I would go in my 60 sps tank I have the vortech and am happy with it.

Hmmmm....a lot of different opinions. I am changing over from a CL. The noise from my CL pump is too loud for me (dolphin es-3200) and calcium builds up in the ball valves and makes it a PITA to shut them off for pump maintance. Anyway, i am still leaning toward the vor tech only because of the small footprint.

the benefits of the VT do seem more apparent on small tanks.

there is nothing that a tunze owner( i am a tunze owner) can say that will make the tunze smaller or the vortech larger the fact is that if real estate is a true concern there is only 1 option.

One Vortec will be enough for a 65gal. I love mine. I had trouble with both of them at first and Ecotech took care of them in less than a week. They have very good CS. I only notice the noise when they are on full blast in pulse mode. Otherwise when I have them set on reefcrest there is a very slight humm, but the flow is well worth it.IMO

I have two Tunze 6055's in my 120g and they are AWESOME......quiet, powerful, controllable, small footprint, just about everything your looking for.

i have them both and a single nano stream takes up more space than a vortech, 2 would be about 3x the real estate of a single vortech.
