Tunze 6105 Noise

I just installed a couple of new Tunze 6105s in my new 225g setup. I've been using Tunze for over 5 years, and love em, but I've only used smaller pumps. Those smaller pumps (6095 I think, and others with the smaller form factor) are very quiet. Quiet, as in I have to hold my ear very near them or even to the glass to hear any buzz at all. That's why I went with Tunze for my new build.

But these 6105s are loud. I admit I'm sensitve to tank noise. My build is focused at every step on minimize noise. But I can easily hear the 6105s buzzing from the couch, 25 feet away. Lowering the power from 100% doesn't help either -- it just lowers the frequency of the noise.

I have the elastic buffer feet on (that sit between each magnet and the glass), and the pumps are fully submerged. I bought 4 6105s, but have only but two in the water. Both make about the same noise.

Question for the forum: Are 6105s, with the bigger form factor, just much louder than the smaller pumps?

They are noisier but not by a lot, I would give it a couple weeks, they should wear in and the noise reduce. A 6105 once worn in is 52 db on an unfiltered db meter, the 6055 by comparison is 48db, since the scale is logarithmic it is a fair amount of difference but 52 db is the background noise level of my living room and still fairly quiet, I do live on a relatively busy street and the room is tile floors with vaulted ceilings so noise tends to amplify. I suspect they just need to break in. db meter pro for the iPhone is pretty good if you wanted to take some readings. Do keep in mind that most of what people find objectionable is the frequency, low noises are more agreeable than high so db is not a complete picture.

Thanks Roger for the reply. I'm going to give them some time and see if they settle -- though they would have to come quite a ways before that whir will be tolerable in my living room. Here's hoping.

If they don't quiet down the only moving part is the propeller and we can try another, it could be out of balance or have a blemish in the hole that spins on the shaft.
