Tunze 6125 Noisy

I bought two used Tunze 6125's and after cleaning them in a Vinegar bath I noticed they were very noisy. They seem to vibrate almost. The previous owner swears they had no issues with the pumps. I did notice that the magnet and prop don;t rotate 100% free on one of them but they both vibrate equally.

Can I order new Impeller assembly's for them? Would that fix them? I'm also not sure when they were made so I don't know if there is a way to tell.

Thank you,

BK

There are two versions 2012 and 2008-2012. The first units from Nov 2008-June 2009 will have no date stamp, all later ones will have a date stamp on a side of the hexagonal body that houses the motor coil (only visible with front housing removed). 0212 for example is Feb 2012. An earlier pump will have a removable shaft which should have a disk and 2 blue bushings (one on each end) the prop and magnet should spin freely on the shaft. A later 2012 pump should have a fixed shaft that is not removable and the drive unit should spin easily on the shaft. If a piece is missing or the drive unit is stuck to the shaft or a later fixed shaft is pulled out it will make noise.

Thanks Roger,

I will take some pictures later today and post them here to make sure I'm ordering the correct parts for the drive units.

Do you by chance have a comparison of how they are supposed to sound? I tried looking on youtube but no luck. My 6065's were virtually silent. That's why I was very surprised when I fired these up.

Thank you,

BK

They should be pretty comparable to the 6065's, they will be a little louder as they have a bigger prop and stronger motor, but it will be a small difference.

They both have the 6125.700 drive unit, other than one seemingly having a torn bottom bushing (the top and bottom bushing should be identical) they look fine. I would make sure the black disk is not stuck to the drive unit and it should be down all the way against the blue end bushings. Also make sure the front housing is completely clipped in. 3609 would be week and year and this date code system was used for a short time. It is also possible a shaft is bent and this is available seperately with the disk and bushings as part 6065.709.

So the black disk needs to be separated from the main drive (the big magnet) like in picture one but all the way down against the blue rubber? Does it matter how it's turned? There is a small dip in those disks if I remember correctly. Can the Props and the attached magnets be interchanged? Do you think I can swap around the shafts, blue rubber and the black disk thing from one unit to the other to see if I can get one to quiet down or is that not going to work?

How do I go about ordering parts?

Thanks again for all your help!!

BK

Correct and the slotted side faces the magnet. You can certainly try swapping parts around and any parts can be ordered on Tunze.com.
