Tunze 7310/2 electronic kit

Hi,

I might be able to buy a brand new Tunze Turbelle Electronic Pump and 7310/2 Kit. The kit includes the7240/2 pump, the 7091 controller with pulse, two power controller knobs, and a food timer, along with all the standerd attachments. The guy wants to sell it to me for $150. Is this a good price? Also, would this be a sufficient setup for my 55 gallon reef? Would it be too much flow? Could I use it as the only pump in my display (would it give enough flow)? I know Tunze is known for great products, but I am not familiar enough with this setup to know if it is good for my situation. Please let me know as soon as you can so I can tell him yes or no.

Thanks for any of your help!

This set does 792gph at full power. Someone you may want to ask is Marc Levinson or Melev on RC. He lives in your area and is using the same pump on the same size tank- he wrote a review that was on the RC Home Page under product reviews. Anyway, in most applications it should provide all the flow you need if you have a decent size (500gph or so) return pump from a sump on the other side. That is about $100 off and that is a pretty good deal- Tunze stuff generally holds a high resale value so that is about what I would expect.

Well, my return pump from my sump/refugium is more like 400gph. Opted for a slower return since my sump is doubling as a refugium, so I wanted some slower flow. Would the 7310/2 still be enough by itself?

Thanks a ton for your help!

Sounds like it would work.... I have 70-80lbs of live rock and only have softies with a couple LPS in the tank, along with some fish. Sounds like it would be a good buy. Will have to discuss with hubby tonight. :D He wants fewer pumps in the tank (have 2 maxijet 900's and one maxijet 1200 in there now), and he feels like I am putting too much flow in the tank. From what I read, the pumps I have in there now do not cause too much flow and I might should have more.

The flow will be more but because the nozzle is twice the size it wil be more diffuse and better cover the tank with a gentler flow. The best part is the pump uses the same amout of power as one of your maxijets so your heat input will decrease dramatically.

Marine Depot, Champion Lighting, Premium Aquatics or if you go to Austin AquaTek Tropical Fish or in Houston Global Fish and Pet.

Roger,

I got the new 7310/2 kit on Friday from the guy (definitely tell it's new...holding device in sealed pack, etc.). Yesterday I got the 3600.244 holding device extension kit in the mail (since I have and AGA with a black rim). I set everything up last night. The controller (7091) pulse 1 & 2 lights say it is pulsing, but when I put my hand in the tank in front of the output, it really does not seem to be changing in strength. I have pulse 1 set at 100% and pulse 2 set at about 50%. I also purchased the photocell and that works fine, as does the feed timer. Am I just not going to be able to feel it? Should I unplug everything and then re-plug everything back to each other to "reset" it? Is there a certain order to plug things in? (Stupid question, but thought I would ask it anyway.) I'm assuming the power recessed screw on the little light blue box is easy to turn to 100% + because I just turned it until it stopped and did not try to force it further or anything.

Thanks!
Jody

If it was new it should have been at 100%, if the screw is turned lower the controller will not work properly. You should be able to see a difference and hear it. The pump sound changes pitch with speed. I would try unplugging the pump from the wall, waiting a minute and replugging it in. Also, make sure the controller is properly connected (push firmly on the pluig to the driver) and test it with no photocell just to be sure that isn't it.

The light blue box was at 100% when I got it. I just wanted to make sure after reading the directions so I used a screw driver, tried to turn it further (without force) and it didn't go further. Of course, I did this all while it was unplugged. :D I didn't plug in the photocell until after it ran for 20-30 minutes. However, tonight when I get home, I will unplug everything, wait a few minutes, and then plug everything (except photocell) back in making sure all is firmly plugged in.

By the way, for 100% flow for pulse 1, do I put the dot on the dial at the widest part of the blue bar, or am I supposed to even go past that as far clockwise as I can? The directions made it sound like I was only supposed to go to the widest part of the blue bar saying that if I went past that, it would tell the controller to stay on pulse 2 and not alternate.

Thanks!
Jody

As far in the direction of the widest as you can turn it is 100%. As far in the other direction is 30%.

I messed with it a bit tonight...unplugged all and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Plugged all back in making sure all were secure. It seems to be doing fine now!

Roger,

I've had my turbelle setup for about a month now...really like it! I have noticed that every once in a while (1-2 times an hour) it will spit out small little bubbles. I'm not quite sure how it is getting air into it since the top is about 1-2 inches under the water. Is it just sucking in microbubbles or something and then as it builds up, spitting it out? Will this hurt it?

Thanks,
Jody

Generally these bubbles are caused by a pressure drop within the pump which causes the amount of gas that can be dissolved in the water to drop, the gas comes out of solution and makes bubbles. Reducing light intensity or cutting back on nutrients present in the water will help by rducing the gases produced by photosynthesis. The other possible solution is the latest version of drive unit has a vacuum break, however this model can trap bubbles inside itself. By reducing the pressure drop inside the pump we loose some of the suction that purges air out of the pump on start up.

Ahhh...I see. Remember, this kit, even thought I did get it new, hasn't been made in over a year by Tunze.

I'm assuming this does not hurt the powerhead or shorten it's life in any way?
