Tunze 9002 Nano size question

Home Growin' SUSHI!
I am trying to figure out if this skimmer will fit into the stock skimmer spot on my Current USA Solana tank. I have read the skimmer is 13.3 in. tall. Is that with or without the collection cup (if it's without, how tall is it total)? Also, it appears the collection cup is wider than the skimmer body, how wide is the collection cup? Thanks.

Shawn,
Thanks for the info...but I don't really follow. So the skimmer cup is 3.75" above the listed 13.3"? Totaling just under 17"?

How about the width of the collection cup?

Sorry misted = listed, typed and did not proof read what I wrote. The total height is 13.3 the cup is 3.75" wide

Do you think it would be possible to "cut" the collection cup so it would fit in the skimmer area of your solana? You just would need to reduce the cup from 3.75 to 3.00 in diameter size. The question is would can you cut the cup?

I don't see how you could cut the cup if you want it to still hold skim mate. I could possibly cut it, and then glue thin acrylic back onto it, so that instead of being round, there are two flat sides. I will just have to get one, then play with it.

Probably my dremel tool. But who knows. It would probably cause some melting, so you would have to do some finish work on the plastic to clean it up. It wouldn't be that hard. The toughest thing would be making sure you can seal it back up with the new plastic pieces. Sounds risky...I like it.

I have been told by Tunze that the cup is a molded polycarbonate part if this can help.

Let me know if someone will try this technic out.

Have a great day,
Yves

I will be buying one of these skimmers as soon as I sell my old tank (a buyer has committed). If I think I can trim the cup, I will. If it doesn't look doable, I think I will move this skimmer into the center chamber of my Solana and then place rubble in the first chamber (switching the way they are stock). We will see. Thanks for all the input and interest in this thread.
