Tunze 9004 pump stopped working

I have a Tunze 9004 whose pump has stopped working. I do not have a receipt as the skimmer was given to me by a friend who won it at macna last year and did not want it. The unit was brand new when he gave it to me.

Have you tried removing the pump, removing the needle wheel and soaking the pump and needle wheel in 50/50 vinegar and water overnight? It would be extremely rare for the motor to fail, the usual cause is just calcium build up, especially if the pump has not been cleaned in 6+ months.
