Tunze 9005 in sump

Hello,

I have acquired a used Tunze 9005 with the sump kit which was never used. I assembled it according to manual the best I could and put it in my sump.

I have two "problems":
- I don't know what the pipe with the foam is used for. No water comes out of it - should there be water in there or what?
- No water is coming from the little hole in the back. The skimmer is gurgling and some foam is being made but very low in the neck of the cup, it never rises.

I might have assembled it wrongly, but how can I be sure?

Thanks,
Alex

I think I did it right, the same info is in the 9005 manual, same photos and everything. Will check again, I might post my photos for you to check if that's okay.
I have no water exiting the pipe at all so I suppose something's not right.

Make sure the bottom cover is completely closed. It can slide open on the old 9005, on 9006 we added a small lock tab to prevent this. If it opens even a few mm, the water will leak out so no water exits the pipe.

Do you mean the bottom with the suction feet, or the bottom/lower water intake on the back (or the front, whatever the side is with the Tunze logo)?

Yes it is closed. I checked it last night after reading some other threads here and indeed, it was not closed all the way. However, even after closing it and it perfectly fits, the result is still the same - no water is coming out of the pipe and the bubbles do not come up the neck at all.

I was missing the "sleeve below the cover" (1) below the "cover with sliding unit" (2). I did install that but water still doesn't come up the pipe all the way. Are you sure water should exit the outlet pipe with foam cartridge?
Any idea on what could be the problem?

Yes, water should exit the pipe, it has to or the skimmer will not work properly. Can you post a picture of the skimmer from the front, showing the pipe and plate the pipe is installed in and bottom cover? Is the skimmer sitting on the bottom (it should rest on the floor of the sump).

Yes, the skimmer is sitting on the bottom of the sump - here is the photo where you can also see the water level

Here is a photo of the pipe and the backplate

Here you can see that the water level comes almost up the pipe, but it never overflows

Some gunk is being pulled out, but overall I'm not sure if the skimmer works as it should

Thanks a lot for your help!!

The skimmer cup is broken?

I would check that the pipe is pushed down all the way in the elbow. Also the bottom cover with suction cups looks like it may be on backwards, the front has a bevel (angle) and the 3 other sides are flat. The angle cut edge should face the same side as the pipe. Also, the sponge should be just below the top of the pipe.

Yes, the skimmer cup was broken in transport :(
Will check the bottom cover and lower the sponge.

Again, thanks for your extremely fast replies!

Turned the bottom plate, it was indeed set the wrong way. Now correctly set and pushed the pipe all the way in. However, result the same, still no water out of the pipe.

It has to be either this bottom plate or the sleeve below cover is not in correct. The only other cause would be if the water level was very low, I would try at least 13cm of water.

It was actually the pump which was not seated correctly in the cover. Now it works like a charm. Thanks for all your help!
