tunze 9005 skimmer and acrylic tanks compatible?

i have 2 truvu acrylic tanks (20gal and 40 gal) and both have acrylic tops which makes it impossible to place the skimmer in the back side of the tank as the acrylic top is in the way. it seems it can only be placed in the center. and im not about to do that. so are these skimmer not compatible with acrylic tanks at all since most of them have acrylic tops for bracing. or are these skimmers only used with open top tanks?

also, do you let it sit flat on it's bottom? my tanks are both 16 inches tall so if i place the skimmer flat on it's bottom, the tank's water level will cover the whole skimmer (skimmer is 14.5 inches tall from bottom to top of collection cup). i have a sump attachment which includes the mount but again, the acrylic top makes it impossible to mount the skimmer higher off the bottom of the tank. i guess the magnet mounts is required for any tank taller than 12 inches.. which is most tanks!?

yikes! how do i delete this thread? i totally ignored how the mount was suppose to be used. seems it mounts to the top acrylic and not the back acrylic pieces. and the skimmer is raised so that the collection cup sits on top of the acrylic pieces also. that all makes sense. will give it a go. didn't want to disturb the fishes by testing it out but now im certain, it will work

They don't work the best with acrylic tanks, you can mount to the acrylic brace but it is unsightly as the skimmer sticks out in the tank.
