I've had a 75 (non-rr) running for about 6 months now. Mixed reef- all except sps seem very happy and are growing well (sps are slightly browned to majority browned). I added a tunze skimmer after the cycle - about 4.5 months ago. I immediately was disappointed at the lack of skimmate I found, but simply chalked this up to a skimmer in the break-in phase of it's life. However, after a 6 week break in, skimmate and bubble levels never reached mid collection cup - from the top down I only saw a aqueous layer about 90% covered with small bubbles. I honestly thought my tank was just that clean due to my frequent and diligent care
.
Fast forward to last week. I do a water change and the skimmer won't restart. Take apart rebuild- as per instructions. It's completely clean and clear. Put it back in the tank and observe situation normal - a few bubble really no collection above the water line. Two days ago it died again (just normal daily operation). Rebuild did nothing. I isolated each part using the manual - everything looks perfect. definitely moving water. However, even wide open with the air inlet I am getting very very few bubbles. Put it all back the in the tank and I get nothing.
I love tunze products, I have many parts from them and have had tremendous luck. Is this just a bad part? Am I doing something wrong? Please let me know if I can provide any further information to help elucidate the actual issue.
after taking it to a local fish store, the only suggestion was that I might be missing a shaft in the rotor; however, I see no such part in the manual.
