Tunze 9010 Not Starting

Roger,

I have been using my Tunze for over a year now and producing great skimmate. When I got home today, I discover it was not on. At first I thought it was the power, but tried plugging a lamp in and the outlet worked.

I then took the pump apart and everything seems to be in order. I want to add that I took the pump apart all the way down to the red O-ring below the impeller. I cleaned everything and put it back together. The pump started and after 30 seconds it stopped. There is no apparent difference in sound I can notice. It just stopped. Plugging and unplugging didn't seem to work. I redid the whole taking apart and putting it back and the thing still won't start.

I'm pretty certain it is a pump/electrical issue. I can hear no humming even when I bring the unit to test in a quiet room.

HELP PLZ....

There is a bearing, part 3000.610 between that oring and impeller, be sure it is not stuck to the impeller. It may be the motor has died but if the bearing was stuck it would overheat and turn off and will restart after it has cooled.

I took out the drive unit and the part 3000.610 is not stuck to the impeller. In fact, I had to use a wooden dowel to get it out. I inspected the piece and everything looked find. I carefully put seated part number 3000.612 (oring) back into the pump housing followed by part number 3000.610 and pressed it down firmly. This time I made sure to checked the 2 break shoes and they seem to be functioning correctly as well. I then reassembled the unit and attempted to turn it on outside the skimmer in a bucket of water. Again, the pump will not start at all. No hum, nothing...

Any other ideas?

Roger: Can you confirm if you have received my pump? It was sent Wednesday of last week. Thanks!

We have not received your package yet but please keep in mind that yesterday was a Holiday so we will more than likely get it tomorrow.

Rodney, check the invoices, I may have done this on Friday, not sure, PGA, please PM Rodney your full name.

I apologize for the chaos, things are hectic as we get ready for MACNA, Reefapalooza and we are about to change our software.

Roger: No problem, I was just checking on the status. I pmed rodney.

The return address was my parents house and they told me last night a package came in. This might be what you processed on Friday. I appreciate the great customer service from the both of you. I'll make sure to say hi when Reefapalooza comes around.

I don't know what you did Roger, but this pump is working better than the day I bought it. It' producing a crap load of skimmate for me at the moment. Thanks a Million!!

Your venturi nozzle was broken and the drive unit was messed up (broken brake shoe). The venturi is the difference you are noticing.
