Tunze 9015

I am considering using a Tunze 9015 skimmer on my 125 mixed reef. Thoughts on these skimmers? Thanks in advance!

great skimmer, but get a 9010 with the foam extraction instead, same unit but somewhat cheaper and is supposed to work better.

From what I can tell it is a little taller and allows you to use more air for somewhat better skimming.

Here's my cost analysis:
- The Tunze 9015 costs $427.33.
- The Tunze 9010, which has the same body & pump as the 9015, costs $327.44. The only difference is the collection cup.
- The Tunze 9010 and 9015.140 cup ($105.52) together cost $432.96 so you obtain an additional cup for about the same price.
- The Tunze 9010 and 9020.140 foam extraction unit ($95.28) together cost $422.72. Tunze claims the foam extraction unit provides the strongest skimming.

The prices can be found at these sites:

I purchased the 9010. It skimmed quietly and consistently, producing 200ml of wet skim daily.

I purchased the foam extraction unit but I have not adequately assessed it because I added a large carbon and ferric oxide reactor at the same time. While my water quality has never been better, the skimmer and reactor do compete with each other.

The foam extraction unit does produce more foam because it has a collar and fits tightly with the skimmer body. Less air escapes around the sides of the reaction tube. It takes slightly more effort to remove for cleaning and to reinstall although you would not need to clean it as often as a collection cup.
