tunze 9016 skimmer or 9015

I bought a used tunze skimmer, and i was told it was a 9016 skimmer. But after getting it home, and having a look on it, i am starthing to think it could be the old version 9015. How can i tell the diffrence? there is no place where a number is writen, and the only thing i can find is that on the pump it says 9010.04, and from what i can find on google, thats the pump used in the 9015, is that correct? if so, what are the main diffrences between 9016 and 9015 ? just a better pump? can i easly just change the pump for the new version, and when it would become a 9016 ?

i hope someone can help me sheed some light on this.

A 9016 includes a 6080.500 magnet holder and uses pump 9011.040

A 9015 included rail holders (magnet was an optional upgrade) and used pump 9010.040.

Besides these major differences the 9016 has larger airline tubing for more airflow, this will not be easy or practical to change. You can easily change the pump but I would not unless the 9010.040 fails, the performance gain is small, especially without the bigger airline tubing.

Tnx for the fast reply, seems I got a 9015 then. How much difference is there on these 2 performance wise?

In an ideal world they would have the same performance as the impeller blades are the same size, venturis are the same and RPM is the same. However, the mechanical system of the 9010.040 can slip and bind more than the 9011.040 electronic system. In my experience this results in a small difference unless the pumps are brand new or well maintained and a 9011.040 will do about 25 l/h more air, not much, but a little more.

Tnx for your explanation it made me feel less cheated :-) Tnx a lot. Its to be used for a small sps system at about 260l with about 6 wrasse, so I supposed it wouldent make a big difference if it's 9015/9016

how much are these units supposed to sound? i tryed running it in fresh water in a big bucket, and it was really noisy. ofcource this could be becaus it needs to breake in agani, or the "bucket" made the sound worse. Just out of curiosity, how much sound are they supposed to make? i was under the impresion that these skimmers were some of the less noisy onens for simpless systems?

It will have a loud noise of a jet of water if it is not submerged to the marked line or the sump kit is not used and installed properly so water exits the pipe for a lower water level. If the noise is gurgling, it is or was submerged too deep so water is in the airline. It should be as quiet as a skimmer can get from my experience.

Hmmm the sound is a noisy humming sound, i guess it could be becaus it was run in a bucket with water. I dont have my tank yet so cant test it in there yet.

I would check that the pump is clean, if it was stored after some use, salt and debris could be crusted inside an this makes it louder.

i took a extra look on the pump, disasamble it and cleaned it. Now i havent seem one of these pumps before, but the impeller has no shaft, and there is nothing holding it in place other than the magnet. So it seems to me there are some parts missing. I tryed to take a few pictures, i would expect there should be something in that hole, in front of the pump, that kept the impeller, in place? also shouldent there be a shaft?

That is correct for this model, it has no shaft, instead it is supported by a bearing 3000.610 at the bottom of the hole and 3000.620 at the top edge.

ok thank you again, i seem to be missing the 3000.620. Always something, that tunze has a good spare part system. tnx for all your help, hopefully i will find no more surprices.

just took a picture of the pump dissambled, is the only thing missing to told the propeller the 3000.620 ? if i want to exchange the propeller what is the number for that? (it seems to have a small damage, and when i am paying for shipping i might aswell replace that )

also the unit i got, was with a pipe from there its supposed to draw in water, and a open close sliding cover on the side of it. Can it be used with out the pipe? and i guess the open and closing slide is to adjust water height in the skimmer?

That piece sits flush at the top of the hole, you will see two slots on each side for prying it out with a screwdriver, I would be very surprised if it is not there.

your right its there, i keep think it was something that had to push the propeller down, and had to sit infront of the propeller, but your right its sitting just above the magnet in the motor block.
