Hi guys
I need some help tuning my Tunze 9410 skimmer. It is not new. Used, but dry for about 4 months.
I have a feeling I am missing something in setting it up.
Please take a look at the small video and tell me what am I doing wrong.
The skimmer is in 6" of water. If I increase the air, it will overflow. If I decrease the air, it makes splashing noise. :headwallblue:

I do not know what to do next.
I need some advice from more experienced users.

Run it at 7 inches with the air almost closed. The 9410 will overfoam all day if you open the airline too much. Yours needs to break in again. That's why you have so many micros and the water is squirting out the small hole at the side. Mine did the same thing. I ditched the felt sock for a 200 micron mesh sock from BRS. The mesh lets a little more through while still cutting down the micros. The higher water level will help with the splashing sound. I even cut an inch off the skimmer standpipe and it was a beast.

There's a round sleeve that slips over the riser tube and that can be adjusted up or down on the tube. It's the part that the sock assembly slides over. I would raise that higher on the tube.

I already sank it 1" and I will raise that sleeve.
The skimmer work perfect. Over night it takes out a lot of "fish poop". The noise is killing me.

Thank you all!
I will keep you up to date with this skimmer.

If the skimmer splashing is still too loud after it settles down and breaks in, then I would suggest doing what I did to lower the sock assembly closer to the water level in the sump. I took off the standpipe ( its not glued) and I used a hacksaw to cut off an inch of the pipe. That allowed my to keep the sleeve at its highest point while being able to lower the sock assembly. If you don't feel comfortable cutting the tube, you can always get a back up tube direct from tunze to replace it back to stock.

Another idea is to get a small section if pond mesh (similar to enkamat) or coarse foam and cut it in a 4" circle with scissors, then place it over the opening to the sock. This calms the slashing going down the end of the ramp into the sock and quiets it down. I'll look but I think I have a picture of mine with coarse foam in my gallery.

Over this weeks, I gave more air to the skimmer as it required more. For splashing, thank you reeftivo, I have a small white bag/sock (the kind you keep your active carbon in) over the pipe, keeping the water smooth.
Noise is down. I am hearing only the bubbles going off in the skimmer.

I am not fully opened on the air valve. Does it have to be fully open, or depends on every skimmer and setup?

you will never fully open the air valve on this skimmer. The pump has power to spare. It will skim best with the airline partially closed

+1

when I ran the foam extractor I could open it a little more because the unit was a bit taller but I ultimately could only get it to about 1/4 open.
