tunze ATO odd issues

Hello,

I have my tunze ATO probably less than a year old. It has been working perfectly fine until today. I see my water level drop and not sure why the ATO is not working, I checked the light and it's still on "green" but the sensor is out of the water.

Here are the steps I did to troubleshoot:

1. I cleaned the eye sensor, no luck
2. I shut/reset the controller, waited to turn off for at least a min and plug back in...The controller starts to flashing from red to green and signal the pump to pump in some water but it ran for roughly 10-20 seconds then light turns "green" even thought the eye sensor is still out of water level.

I'm wondering why the light turned "green" when eye sensor is out of water, it has not meet a desired level where I want it to be.

Please HELP!! Many thanks in advance.

Also, I have checked the water in my reservoir and the pump is fully submerged.

Not sure what else to try to get my ato back working again :(

When you cleaned the sensor, did you soak it in vinegar for a few hours? The most probable cause is calcium deposits hazing over the sensor and only a longer vinegar soak will remove this. The haze is only visible when the sensor is completely dry, it won't be shiny and new looking. Besides this the other possibility is a bad optic sensor, if it is less than 2 years old it would be under warranty, if you send it in we can unsolder the old one and solder in a new one.

Thanks. I'll try to soak in vinegar for a while and update this thread. I was just cleaning using paper towel but I'll try your method and hope for the best. Thanks.

So I soaked in the vinegar for a day and got all cleaned up....it looks very shiny now but the problem is still persist. Any other suggestion beside sending it in??

If I have to send it in please provide steps or instructions on how to do it. Sorry newbie here. Thanks so much.

The optic sensor has to be replaced and the controller recalibrated for the new sensor, the only way to do it is to send it in. Just send the controller with a note that has your return address and phone number to the address below-

Thanks. I sent it in today. Will someone from Tunze going to communicate to me by phone to gather the symptom of the ATO or how's it supposed to work?

Do I need to provide a shipping tracking number to anyone??

Thanks again for all the helps.

Their are just 3 of us here and I handle all support and repairs personally. In general I get a unit in, physically inspect it, test it and diagnose it, I usually only contact people if I have a question or the issue is not warranty related (simply due to a lack of time and needing to be as efficient as possible) if you included a phone number, email or RC screen name and I have additional questions, I will be in touch. Typically I do the repair the day after it arrives.

Thanks again.

I have included my phone number and a short symptom as "optic sensor is malfunction". A return address was also provided.
