Tunze ATO siphoning water back into sump

The air gap is where the water pumps into a pipe which serves as a gutter to take the water to the sump. As long as this is above the height of your reservoir water level, problem solved.

I personally do not trust solenoids, they fail after so many cycles, it may take years, but it will happen someday. Two would add a strong level of safety but really complicates the set up.

if the top off happens in the display while the sensor is in the sump, is there a delay of the sensor knowing when enough water has been added?

It would be nominal, any extra water always flows down to the sump, it might add just a couple seconds at most.

BRS had a video they put a couple weeks ago on using a solenoid safely, just keep in mind they have the nasty habit of eventually failing and unfortunately they usually fail locked open.

They are fairly cheap and for this reason i recomend two. I have one at my mixing station and one in the fish room. So it would be very un likely that they would both fail at the same time.

You should then check each of them every six months or so to ensure they are working.
