First ato I've ever had. I got it on a 20 gallon nano. This maybe a silly question but how many times a day does your ato go off? Mine goes off about once an hour maybe more(is this normal). I guess evaporation just takes effect that quickly?

Also what is the safety feature on these things? Will it stop running after a certain amount of time if the float fails?

I assume you got the 3152 Nano Osmolator? On this unit the safety is that by default, after 1.8 minutes the pump will shut down, this can be extended to 3 minutes. This is only reset by cycling the power. The frequency of top offs sounds normal, a roughly 3mm water level change will trigger a top off with the 3152.

Yes the nano. Ok im just paranoid about a potential flood due to a malfunction. Is there anything i can do to prevent that? Also when i do water changes do i just unplug the ato until i am done?

1.8 minutes of maximum run time is equal to less than 1/2 gallon of water. The best things you can do are limit the volume available in the reservoir to what you need in a week and make sure that their is room for about 1/2 gallon of water without a flood.
