What is the minimum water depth to be able to run the filters and bio-reactors?

Also any sizes on the filter system 12 kit 0012-00
 
Comline kits require an 11" water depth minimum. You need one mechanical filter and one Biohydro reactor per 100gals. For larger systems you may wish to use 3167, a dual mechanical filter, the biohydroreactors can be chained in series off of this filter. Each module is roughly 4.75" square. The system set 12 is 17.25" long and is submerged roughly 4". System sets require mounting on fiberglass rails, comline kits simply clip together. System bio reactors are each suitable for 50gals. In both cases coupler 3178.71 is used to connect reactors to mechanical filters. The mechanical filters serve as the carbon source for the denitrating bacteria. The mechanical filter cartridges are about 1" thick spiral wound floss. They should be rinsed or changed weekly, they wash well in the washing machine when unravelled. Their filtration is similar to diatom filters in effect.

Can you use a system 12 filter unit with the comline reactors?
 
In a sump I suppose this could be done, the reactors will work with about 6" of water. What are you working on? You could also just use a Pot filter on a pump to feed the reactors. For in tank i think you would have problems and the set would look awkward if you mixed them. The rails would interfere with the Comline mounts.

Just looking at options for in sump use, need to add a mechanical filter and while at it may also add some backup for the tank in the form of bio reactors.

The comline units are small but depth is a concern, If I went with the pot type system I would need more space for the bio reactors.

I will have a look this weekend as to how much space I can make available.

I think I will use the system pot filters and then look at bio reactor later as they would only be as a backup. It may be that the system bio are best as they are true trickle filters with some of the media open to the air so may be able to react quicker.

The theory on the reactors is essentially the same. For in tank I really prefer the Comline, they work great for growing Mangroves. The System Reactors are pretty neat, the drip portion is aerobic and should use most of the oxygen present in the water, then a stagnant barrier of water and a layer of granovit provide an anaerobic zone. Both work very well in practice and maintain near zero nitrates when used at the proper rate for the size aquarium
