Speaking of chaeto, is there a different name for the 2 types of chaeto? The two I'm talking about to be very scientific are:

1 the condensed thick kind (looks more like green top ramon after about 20 seconds in the water)
2. the looser more stringy kind (like green angel hair pasta)?

I went to dolphin looking for some thick Chaeto but they didnt have any and I didnt know of a specific name for it. I wouldnt mind the loose stringy chaeto currently in my tank if it didnt string appart and overwhelm my little 24 gallon nanocube, not to mention wrap itself around liverock and corals.

That said, I'm lookin for the firm chaeto so if anyone in the south bay knows where to get some, please direct me.

Thanks for listening.

There could be multiple cheato's, but what you are describing could have to do with the growing conditions. I have moved cheato to dfferent tanks and have experienced the change from the same cheato.

I agree with you here. I've experienced both types of growth from the same batch of chaeto in one system.

When I used to run a refugium, the bottom portion of the chaeto that was exposed to a 9W actinic, was very dense and dark green. The section of chaeto at the top, was exposed to a 250W MH. The growth here was light green and very stringy.

I did prefer the dense growth, since it housed more pods.
