Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer 9005

i just got my 9010 going on 3 months ago and as i understand there basically the same other than my collection cup is bigger..... its pretty good considering the space i had to work with

I ran a 9010 in my sump for some time. It pulled a lot of skimmate for the size of the skimmer. However, it was really tempermental; production was easily affected by the water level in the sump. I eventually switched to Aqua C. I would definetly use a top-off if you plan on running the 9005 with the sump attachment to keep water level constant.

big 66 what aqua c did you use the urchin
is the urchit comparable to the tunze
i dont want to have to fiddle with it tii much
a tempermental skimmer would be a P.I.T.A. for me
any experience with the urchin??

As long as you have baffles or a divider in your sump the water level should remain constaint. I have the 9010, and also the 9015 cup. Depending on whether I want to wet or drier skim, decides what cup. Mine sits in about 11" of water, off the top of my head.

You'll really need a constant water level for any in-sump skimmer. It just comes with the territory. The only way to avoid it is with a HOB or external skimmer. I used my Life-Reef VS2-24 with variable water levels, and that thing just kept on skimming like a champ regardless.

I went with the remora b/c my tank is only 54 gallons. The tunze was a tight squeeze. I would stick with the 9005, get the flow right, and find the right level. I would also post this on the tunze forum and get some suggestions there.

I had a 9005 powerful little skimmer it was on my 65 sold it complete with my 65 setup. Great skimmer once you dial it in.
