Tunze DOC Skimmer 9005

Navyblue

Low maintenance first
I have a Tunze DOC Skimmer 9005 with the DOC skimmer extension set that I kept in storage for a while.

I tested it in a bucket of tap water, with the water level an inch below the blue line. The skimmer seems to be working, humming and bubbling. May be a tad loud, but the main problem is the water would not flow out from the stand pipe. I wonder if this is the case with tap water? Or am I doing something wrong?

As far as I can tell, the assembly is correct. The bottom plate (the one that has no holes) is completely inserted, with the bezel facing front. The intake sliding door is fully opened.

My second question is, I no longer have the original bottom cover with the openings at the bottom, and the cap for the sliding cover. Can I just leave the bottom partially open if I want to use it without the skimmer extension set?

Thanks a lot. :)

There is a coupler piece that goes between the pump and front intake, that might be missing. It is also important that the base is in contact with the bottom of the bucket. Freshwater won't affect this, the bubbles will be larger though.

I would get the bottom plate with slots, you could omit the cap but bubbles will exit this hole.

You mean there is a piece between the pump intake and the skimmer intake sliding door?

Or do you mean the venturi piece that goes between the pump outlet and the main skimmer body?
