Roger, I have had a couple of drive units for my Tunze powerheads fail by stripping out the ridges that the brake shoes act on. This allows the impeller to spin freely on the magnet. I have no idea why this happens, as it never happens on my Streams. The failed drive units have seen service in a basic Tunze powerhead, and an electronically controlled one (I switch drive units around when I clean them), so I don't know which is actually damaging them.
Anyway...do the electronic powerheads actually need the brake devices, or could I use the failed drive units in my electronic tunze powerhead by just locking the two sections together with glue, and omitting the brakes?
thanks, Mike
