Tunze Flow

I'm still mulling over different flow options for my LPS dominated 90 gallon (standard sized) reef.

would 2x 6065's be too much/not enough? Any other options? I'm trying to keep costs down right now, as much as possible, so the controllable ones aren't first on my list. Thanks!

2 6065 could work, but with the controllability you will be at the mercy of placement for some LPS that don't appreciate stronger currents, I don't fear it being not enough, more too much. If I could make a suggestion it would be 2 6055, they aren't a whole lot more, and the flow is fairly similar but you will have the adjustability.

JMO, but I think 2x6055 will be just enough for your needs if not a little low. For my 50 gal, I run 2x6055 plus a MP40. I don't like running my pumps at 100%, so none of these are on full throttle and this is something to keep in mind, but I like the amount of flow I'm getting and I don't think my corals are complaining either. For myself, the 6055s are great products and I'm really glad that I have them. I won't get getting rid of these unless they break on me!

Tunze makes great products and I'm sure that you'll find something in their portfolio that fits your needs. Also, if you do get the 6055s and find that it's not quite enough flow, just find a used 6045 on RC and you're all set.

Another way to think about it is that you'll be at roughly 30x turnover at max flow. If you plan to ramp the pumps lower, then you'll be at < 30x at times and if this is okay for you, then these are the right pumps for you.

6055 and 6065 are very close in output volume, 6065 has a wider flow pattern but your tank is only 18" wide. I find the 6055 is ideal for tanks from 45-90 gallons and marginal on a 120, for LPS I think it is plenty, most of these corals will not expand if the flow is not just right, that is why I would advocate an adjustable pump, otherwise you have to keep moving corals and rock until they are happy with the flow they get.
