Tunze in My 120

I just put two Tunze 6000's into my 120 (4'x2'x2') and have placed them inside the Deco Rock Covers. I do have them on the Multicontroller 7094 so I can control the flow. The tank is about 4 months old. Here are the pictures...

I also placed them in the two front corners of the tank facing back towards the rest of the LR and the tank. I have set them up on alternate waves so they don't both run at the same time.

My questions are:

If I unplug the controller, the pumps really push the water, but if I put the multicontroller on 100%, the pump desn't run near as fast. Is the multicontroller sucking some of the power away from the pumps?

Since the pumps are almost laying on the sand, it looks like a snowglobe in the tank when they do run... Do I even need them at 100% anyway? It's like duelin' banjos with one starting off blowing sand then it slows to almost nothing, then the other pump starts and blows sand over on the first pump - so I think the same sand grains are playing tennis back and forth.

With all the sand flying and that they are in the Deco Rocks - how often do they need to be cleaned? Taking them in and out of the rocks in my display will be a pain - and stir up more sand... ;)

Thanks in advance for your help!

The rocks should not be on the bottom really. I would prop them up. Sand can and will damage the pumps so you need to clean them every week or so until the sand is out of suspension. Make sure the driver is at 100%. The controller may cause a very slight power drop but it shouldn't be more than 10%, barely noticable. Double check the hook up and settings. Be sure when you connect it the pumps are unplugged from the mains.

How do I determine if the driver is at 100%?

When I remove the controller it moves WAY more water but I can see that 100% on the controller is not the same.

I lifted them up off the sandbed, but I'm a little concerned that my anomonies may drift over there and get into the head.

Thanks for your help.

On the side of the blue box is a little screwdriver tuned potentiometer. Unless you changd it it should be at 100%. What happens when you turn the multicontroller down? Do you get an alarm?

I think I figured it out...

I have the photocell hooked up and it had fallen behind the tank into a dark area... Since the multicontroller has a "night mode" - it assumed it was night all the time...

It seems to be working correctly now.

Thanks for your help.
