Tunze Modification

Ok now that I have your attention

There are some super smart people on here and clever tinkerers at that, how hard would it be and $$$ to invent/make a holder for a Tunze stream that would oscillate the stream through a 90Ã"šÃ‚° degree arc ?

I have seen on RC a couple of years ago someone had made up a desk fan to oscillate a small powerhead, but it wasn't a great job, but the idea was awesome.

Tunze streams IMO are fantastic but if they traversed a continuous 90Ã"šÃ‚° degree arc they would be absolutely unbelievable.

Roger is there anything like this at all on the Tunze ideas board in Germany ?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Someone's done it. Check out the T-Rat in the DIY forum, or do a search. It's like one of those old powerhead oscillators but it oscillates a tunze stream on a magnet bracket instead.

FWIW I have seen prototypes of a Stream oscillator but it is not made by Tunze. Another company is making such a device. It was extremeley well made but it also costs as much as an electronic Stream pump. We will not make one because their is some risk in that over time the UV light makes the cords brittle and after a few years of being swiveled back and forth it could break the cord.

Roger if the cords being exposed to UV is the only thing stopping Tunze manufacturing one, wouldn't the cords be internal down the shaft mounting the Tunze to the motor and therefore shielded from any UV ?

yeah I don't really see that as a legit reason not to build it. Tunze has overcome way harder engineering problems then that. I don't care whether they build it or not, I just don't see how that could possibly worry them.

Interesting observation on the power cord... UV light, heat, swivelling motion..... I'll add a UV resistant sleeve over the cord...

As for the motion... the cord attachment points are far enough apart that flexing is minimalized....

The T-Rat with a 6080 Stream has been up and running for a while now and all indications are that the design is proven..... the 6080.50 magnets are neat too....

I much prefer the Tunze Stream pumps over the competition... more bang for the buck and the quality is there for sure...

All in all this mod has shown the benefits of the Tunze Stream when oscillated on a Rat platform... that reef tank at the LFS has never looked better....
