Tunze Nano 9002 Skimmer Problems

Still having a few problems with my 9002 skimmers.

I'm running both in a 40g breeder (which is more like 50g).

The water line is just below the indicated max water line.

I've had these for at least 3 months now.

One of them puts 3 degrees of heat into the tank consistently. I've tested this out with two coralife digital thermometers and an aquacontroller III, all measuring at the same time, same time of day, etc.

I tested that out by turning one off, letting the tank sit for about an hour, then checking the temp, then turning it back on again, an hour later checking the temp. I did this once or twice last week, and it was always adding 3 degrees into the water. The other unit doesn't change the temperature at all with the same method.

The one that runs a bit hot, the top plastic piece still doesn't sit correctly. it's definately not formed right, and has been this way since day one. I can force it down, but eventually (like a week later), it'll pop a corner up. The venturi line etc isn't pushing it, I've checked. This one's screw for the adjusting is also IMPOSSIBLE to turn without a ton of force. Just feels like it's threaded incorrectly. It's like night and day compared to my other unit.

They both skim great, but only to 100ml MAX. I've never seen them skim more than 100ml before stopping. Foam still rises, but it never breaks. I can up the venturi, but then it overflows. Every three days or less I have to clean them out, and then wam, they skim again like champs.

Is the above behavior normal for these units? Or is something wrong? For the first two or three days after the cup is cleaned, they skim great, but then they need cleaning. Skim is never more than 100ml unless I'm skimming SUPER wet, but that usually leads to an overflow down the line =P

thanks!

I clean mine twice a week. The 9002 seems very sensitive to build up and the foam collapses. I think it is because the diameter is small. The larger units don't require as frequent cleaning. I don't have any heat issues with mine.

I'm pretty sure one of my skimmers is somehow defective, the one with the heat and top issues. The build quality just seems a bit less than the other one. I dunno, maybe just a lemon. Waiting on what Roger has to say =)

I do have a 9010 waiting to goto work on a new tank as well ;) hope I don't need to clean that one as often.

Why not send back the one with the bad pump and top and I can get it fixed up for you, such an issue will be very hard to guess about the cause, I will need to test it, just be sure to include a note about the high temp issue so I know to check for it.

pm'd =)

hopefully my single 9002 will be able to take on the 50g breeder by itself in the meantime
