Tunze Nano 9002 skimmer

Hi Roger,

I know that 9002 skimmer supports up to 58gal but would it be effcient in a 75gal? Because the 9002 would fit in the back of the tank of the wet/dry chambers. I don't have a sump and the 9005 or 9010 is too big to fit in the chamber or inside the tank.

The tank has 75lbs of LR, 3in to 4in DSB, 2 medium fishes, 4 small fishes, and some soft corals.

Thanks,

Kris

It would be better than nothing, probably better than any other skimmer that would fit but it is far from ideal. I would do a 5% weekly water change and run some carbon and phosphate remover and keep the stocking density light.

darn, too bad it's so small of a chamber =(

if you clean out your skimmer cup daily or every other day, that would also help make it skim at it's best efficiency on a daily basis.

I have a AquaC remora running 8 months now. It pulls about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of skimmate over a 2 week span. I was looking for a better skimmer. I do 20% water change every 2 weeks.

Kinetic, how do you like your 9002 skimmer?

How about for a 29 gallon? I was also a little confused about the difference between the "reef pack" and the 9002. With the reef pack does the whole thing hang outside the tank and with the 9002 is sits inside the tank?

Both sit in the tank, the Reefpack 200 is the same skimmer but with a filter and magnet holder mount. They would work well on a 29.

How far do they stick out of the top of the tank? I guess that means no cover or lights that sit close to the water? Is there any way to retrofit it as a hang on back type?

Nit sticks up above the waters surface about 5"

And how much clearance above the tank does the 9002 need for servicing (for the cup to be removed and reinstalled)?

The cup inserts into the skimmer about 2.5", you would want at least that much space additionally to remove the cup. Keep in mind the cup is only 4" in diameter, usually you just have to design the tank so the light is set forward about 4" from the back and you are fine. This works very well with the commercially available T5 fixtures that offer leg stands to sit on top of the tank.

Roger, thank you for the prompt reply. I will need to check if it fits the space I have available (tank sits on a kitchen counter with cabinets above).
