Tunze Nano Stream and 1" acrylic?

oh crap! i didn't have my tank drilled because I thought I could use these. oi =(

It might be possible to use a 220.56 magnet cleaner half on the back end to strengthen the grip. I would need to check into that.

also, what is the diameter of the magnet? maybe i can try to find a very strong magnet the same diameter

It holds but it is not a strong enough hold in my opinion, the magnet stuck through a book that is 1.25" thick but that is with no load and it was not the strongest grip and a book is less dense than acrylic. Will you have any overflows you can mount these on?

i have an external overflow, again with 1" thick acrylic.

it's 1" thick with a black laminate on it, so it might be slightly more than 1".

I guess I probably won't be able to use these.

I'll try to research to see if I can grind away 1/4" of the acrylic and mount the streams there. though if I don't like where it is, i can't move them easily.

do you have the exact diameter of the magnet?

do you think I could just buy a super strong magnet somewhere and use that as the other half?

The magnets are about 1.5" in diameter.

My nanostreams are mounted to acrylic just thicker then 3/4". The magnets are just barely strong enouhg to hold them. I definitly would not try to mount them on 1" acrylic

I'm going to look into those rare-earth magnets and stack them to try to provide enough power.

Roger, would you have any suggestions for this hack?

Only that neodymium magnets do not fair well with getting wet, they corrode very rapidly and just basically turn to a lump of magnetic powder. I would try to waterproof them in some way, probably with epoxy or polyurethane

Yes I have some of the magnets. Take a look at product # NSN0556. It's .5" dia x 1" L with 28 lbs. of force. You will get 4 of them for $13. I would think 1 or 2 will be more than enough to hold though 1" acrylic.

yes, I was going to use neodymium. I'll probably do a plasticote dip sort of thing on them. thanks for the tip!

also the magnet on the 6045's are about 1.5" in diameter, would it make more sense to get one closer to that size? smaller or larger since they come in 1" and 2"?

It really doesn't matter, I have seen the actual magnets inside and they are the size of a stack of 5 nickles.
