Tunze Nano Wavebox + Vortech

currently I have setup up my new mixed sps tank - size: 36 (L) x 23 (w) x 26 (H) and is running nano wavebox + 2 seio pumps which I gathered from my old fish tank (in addition to a return pump with 2 outlets at two corners)

the waves from the wavebox is not obvious no matter what frequency I adjust to and between a fully submerged box or 0.75 (inch) above water (this is the highest I can get because of the rims around the tank!).

My plan is to have 80% sps and therefore I am a bit concerned about the waves in the system.

I have few proposal but not sure which is the best way.

1) Add another Tunze pump and connect to the salve of the nano wavebox controller.

2) add another nano wavebox and run parallel together with the current one.

3) Remove the 2 seio pumps and add a vortech (MP40) and run on the same side or opposite side of the nano wavebox.

Option 1 and 2 will be cheaper than 3 but I am not sure if it would create significant difference than the current setting.

Any comments welcome!

Thanks!

I would keep the wave box and add two Tunze 6105 and 7096 control box for the Tunze unless you have a Apex run them through the Apex! MP 40 are nice all depends on your tank set up! either way you will have great current! If you go MP40 you could get rid of the wave box! or go with MP60! Good luck and let us know what you did and how it worked out for you! Chef

Your tank is around 100g? 2 MP40 or 2 6105 and you are set! You could take out the wave box and the seio pumps and have great current and wave if you desire, and a cleaner looking display tank. Chef

You really have to be patient when you calibrate the frequency of your wavebox. Start at the very bottom and sloooooooowly turn the analog dial up. When I mean slowly, if you can see the dial move, you have moved it too much. It takes a lot of patience, but it will work. My friend has a 75g tank and reported the same problem. I spent half an hour tuning his wavebox and his waves are cranking now.

does the wavebox needs to be sticking out of the water? as I said, I can only go so far up because of the rims.

if you can see my outlets for the return from sump, they are quite high and close to the surface. I have heard from my LFS that this may affect the quality of waves because the outlets are too close to the top.....he suggested to put it lower than the output of the wavebox.....what do you think?

TUNZE 6055 or 6105?

TUNZE 6055 or 6105?

I visited my LFS today and they said 2x 6105 might be too much for my 36" tank....and they suggested me using 2x 6055. What do you all think?

Cost:

6105 - HK$2520
6055 - HK$1770
7096 - HK$1200

A MP40 Vortech is HK$4000.

1USD = 7.8HKD

I talked to TUNZE USA and they suggested me to use 2x 6055 as the 6105 would be too powerful for my tank.

They claimed that 6105 is for takes of 2 meter long.

I have a some what similar sized sps tank (36x24x18). Right now I'm running 2 modded 6025s, and a mp10, but I just bought a MP40 that I'm going to use to replace one of the 6025s so I can have a bit more diverse flow.

You can completely submerge the wavebox if necessary but if you can I'd try to get the top out of the water, even if only a few centimeters. I wouldn't give up on the wavebox yet but I'd probably swap out the Seio pumps for the 6055's.

I think I would go with your suggestion. Swap out the Seio's for the 2 6055's and play around with the wavebox. If I am still not satisfied, I'll get the controller so it can do pulses with the 6055's.....

Cash is tight but won't give up on this hobby!

BTW, I have played with the wavebox more....adjusting ever so little...I am now able to get about 1/4" of wave.......

I am getting a lot of turbulence on the surface....is this affecting it?

Guys!

Look at these....they seem to be helping a lot but am still trying to get the best setting and finding the best spot/direction for the 6055's.

It looks like one of those seio pumps is blowing directly into the wavebox output. I would move that pump and give the wavebox a clear shot to the other side.

It also helps to turn off all pumps while you calibrate your wavebox.

Also, if you haven't posted in the tunze forum, Roger from tunze is one of the best reps I've had the pleasure of dealing with. He may be able to offer advice as well.

All the seio pumps are out now and only a wavebox and 2 6055's are in the tank.

I am now able to get about 1/4" of wave.

I think I am now ok and may add another pump later as I get more SPS.
