Happy new year.

A fellow refeer who has a Tunze 3155 has a problem with his device. He says:

"I have plumbed in the tunze auto top up unit so the black sensor just touches the water level, but every time i turn it on it flashes between "level" and "too low" lights and then the pump comes on adding RO and then goes red back to "Too low". Now to test when i fully submerge both sensors the mechanical white one triggers as it pushes the bobbin to the top and the light goes to "Too High" and alarms but if i press the white sensor back down it goes back to "Too low" even though the black sensor is fully submerged

Am i doing something wrong? Ive gave the sensor a good clean with RO and made sure its straight and then cables are vertical.
"

I wonder if he has a faulty control unit?

Thanks in advance.

The age of the unit may be a cause, if it is from before 2008, the pumps and power supplies and controller of the time were different and can be a cause of these issues when only a part like the pump is replaced.

If it is new, he should try starting it with the sensor just above the water. On start up a self diagnostic test is performed on all units since Feb 2012 production. Normally all four lights flash, the alarm sounds, the pump kicks on briefly and an LED for status comes on, green means pass, yellow means a minor error that is not a critical issue (skin oil on the sensor for example or it is a little dirty), red too low means fail. If the sensor is already touching water, it interprets this as a failure as the self test is designed for our own use in diagnostics. It may just be doing the self test and it will resume normal operation in a couple seconds but it would briefly show this light because the sensor is already touching water and this changes the reading that is expected from a dry sensor in the self test.
