Tunze Osmolator and Kalk Reactor

Roger,

I'm setting up a 150g with sps and clams and am interested in using the Tunze Osmolator. I also looked at the Tunze Calcium Dispenser but it doesn't look like its capacity will fit my needs very well. My questions are how well a more traditional Kalk reactor can be incorporated with the use of the Osmolator? How noisy is the Osmolator? And how difficult is it to hide the topoff line feeding into the tank?

Thanks.

The top off line isn't much bigger than an air hose and shouldn't be very noticeable. It doesn't go into the tank, just over the edge, it actually can't touch the water surface or it could back siphon. The pumps vary in noise production but generally as long as they are suspended and not touching the bottom of the reservoir they are not very noisy. I generally don't believe kalkwasser can supply an aquariums full calcium demand regardless of method of use. The idea behind the dispenser is to augment a calcium reactor and stabilize pH and KH. In a small aquarium of mainly soft corals it could be sufficient. I know a few people using them to supply MRC kalkwasser reactors so I know it is possible with some brands. With what you are planning to do my honest advice is you need a Calcium reactor and the Calcium Dispenser we make would be useful to remove residual CO2 and raise KH. Kalkwasser just does not add enough Calcium ions without raising the pH to dangerous levels.
