Tunze osmolator coming on too often

I have a tunze osmolator. The problme that I have is that it is too precise. It keeps coming on every 5 minutes to top off the water that is evaporated. Is there any way to make it less sensitive, so it only comes on less often and fills more water?

THanks

I bought it used, so I'm not sure.

It's not a problem with the osmolator, it's a problem with my sump design. All of the evaporation of a 120 gallons of water is concentrated into a 12" X 12" area, so the water level drops pretty fast.

I was thinking of puting it on a timer and only having it come on every hour for a few minutes. Would that shorten the life of the osmolator?

Is there a better option?

I would assume it is an older one and then it would be normal. From 2000- early 2003 they worked as you stated. These are identifable because early ones were completely hand soldered and calibrated. Later on they were hand soldered but with some surface mount parts and chip sets and calibration by adding/removing resistors was no longer necessary. The latest ones are completely machine made surface mount and the chips are now soldered on, not mounted on plugs and a delay was added of 8 seconds to come on and 15 seconds to turn off, giving a slight overfill and time for minor irregularities to correct. Their would be no remedy for this situation. The best advice I could give is to wrap the pump in that egg foam mattress stuff to dampen the noise if that is the main source of annoyance.

would puting the osmolator on a timer so that it is only on for 5 min every hour hurt the system?

Only in that everytime you turn it off you reset the 10 minute timer. So, if you had a leaking tank, it is going to keep pumping more water for 10 minutes every hour rather than pumping for 10 minutes and shutting down for good because their is a problem.
