Tunze Osmolator Problem

Hello Roger,
I purchased my Osmolator Dec of 2010. It's been working great until a week or so ago. It stopped pumping water and I noticed that none of the lights are coming on when I unplug and plug the controller. The high water alarm works and will come on when I trigger. I thought that the pump may have gone out so I purchased a new one, hooked it up, and no dice. The pump doesn't turn on and the yellow or green lights don't come on either. If I leave it turned on for awhile, eventually the red low water light will come on as if the pump had been pumping constantly. I have a feeling the controller has gone out, but I'm open to trying anything to get it working again.

It could be the controller has gone out, it could also be that the pump connector or pigtail from the controller to the pump is badly corroded or shorted out. I would send in the power supply pump and controller.

Roger,

Mine does this too with the plug thing, its working well at this time, but it does act up once and a while....

Should I send it in, or wait for it to break completely... I dont wanna be without an ATO, as I go through 5 gallon every 3 days... Thats alot of topping off to do.... haha

Thanks Roger!

PS: Sorry to Hi-Jack this thread but its the same issue I'm having!

The most common cause of a weak power connection is that at some point the DC tip landed in saltwater, if plugged in the basically reverse electroplate almost instantly and the inside of the tip (+) will be copper, green or white instead of shiny nickel plate. This will result in very poor contact that steadily gets worse.

Mine has never been in contact of saltwater or freshwater, I will look into though and see if a new power supply doesnt fix the issue...

It would just be the tip or barrel from the power supply that gets wet, not the whole thing, this is very common when people unplug them from the controller. If it is not corroded visibly, there is no reason to replace it, the problem has another source, you want to look at the inside of this tip for any corrosion or missing nickel plating.

Hello Roger,

I seem to have the corrosion problem that you describe on both the controller and the power supply. I started to notice it when I had to turn the connector in the socket to get good connection. Now it looks as if there is never enough and the yellow light just blinks (I can hear the pump trying to push water during the time it is on).

Is there anything I can do or do I need to send you the whole unit for servicing?

Thank you,

Geraud

For the power supply, you could just order a new one, part 5012.010. For the controller end, if it is a controller from the last 14 months, all we can do is clean the end, it cannot be replaced, on older controllers we can replace them but the new style does not lend itself to replacement so a can of contact cleaner and a small brush is the best bet.

Thank you Roger, I bought some contact cleaner and it worked wonders. I will however order a new power supply sooner or later.
