Tunze Osmolator Pump very loud

The pump on my osmolator is the loudest part of my system. It is waking my wife up at night. We are upstairs quite a distance from the tank. What could be causing the noise. It is just a loud humming/whistling. It sounded like this out of the box. Is there a way to fix it? The short term solution is to unplug it at night but I am hoping for ideas for a permanent fix.

afelder,

The pumps are a low cost unit and do vary a lot I would try another this will also leave you with a spare.
Other options are to change the voltage on the transformer.
You can also ugrade to a larger or different pump by adding a Switched socket outlet part 3150.11 this will give you the option of another pump type up to 900watt for the USA not that you may want to go this large.

They do vary but I would try the following, make sure it is propped up and not resting on the bottom or side of the reservoir, suspend it by the cord. Let it kick on once while holding it upside down to purge any air out. Give it some time the noise does tend to go away after a bit of wear in.

Thank you both for the quick response. I will see if starting it upside down works and may replace the pump. Where would I find part 3150.11?

3150.11 is generally special order, we have them in stock but the only vendor I know that stocks it is Marine Depot, any other vendor coulr order one for you though. In general 3150.11 is only used on very large tanks, it takes the 9v power lead from the osmolator and switches a socket controlling a 115V pump up to 150w of draw. I would avoid this unless it was absolutely necessary. I have two osmos at home and I can only hear them if the reservoir is empty or I am in the immediate room and my house is not very large at 1700sq ft. I do know though that often when I put in a new pump due to air or having it right against the bucket the noise is much louder.

The pump was vibrating against teh bottom of the container. I have it suspended in the water now and it is much quieter.

Thank You for all your help
Ariel
