Tunze pump vs tunze wavebox qquestions

Ok I am keeping sps only with fish. Tank size is 72 long,30 wide and 24 tall. What are the differences between the two. I've seen both make pretty good waves. I want something that moves alot of water around rock at the sand level. What would u guys suggest for my tank size. Thanks Kevin

Both can work, but the wavebox does it more efficiently, with 2 6105 you have two 38W pumps alternating so the total draw is 38W. With 1 6215 you have a single 50W pump that is on half the time and averages 25W draw. They both can accomplish the same goal, but the 6215 would be quieter, cheaper and more energy efficient.

So a single box can work? I have one overflow so would the box go on the same end of the overflow or what? How much are these and how do they differ from the older tunze wave box? Thanks for the replies.

You would just need one, the 6215 has a Stream 2 pump and includes magnet holders. They are currently about $600 MSRP. Is the overflow centered on the side or in a back corner?

It's in the back corner. What makes these so expensive? It's a pump and contoller with a box. Right? If these were 300 bux they would sell 20 times as many and Amie the money on the back side and selling replacement parts and make money there also. What is the difference in the 6215 and the older models. Just the pump? Thanks forthe info.

The pump inside is essential a 6205 which is a $520 pump on it's own. These pumps are low voltage controllable pumps and the Chinese have not even been able to market a copy for less than $300, these pumps have electronics to control start up and speed and are fairly expensive to produce. They are the only type of pump that can handle the abuse of being switched off and on at fraction of a second intervals.

What is the difference in the new wavebox from the older ones. I don't need a huge wave just a small one. Thanks for the quick replies.

The old wavebox used pump 6261, based on the 6201, the new one uses 6215, based on the 6205. The old wavebox had a system of clamp holders, magnet holders were an optional purchase. The new one includes magnet holders.

I would need the magnets because I have a 4 in lip around my tank so it would have to be mounted below the lip. My water level is a 1/4 in below the lip will the box be om mounted under it?

The tank doesn't sound like a good candidate for a wave, to really see much benefit the wave should be at least 3/4" high, below that it doesn't move enough water to really be worth the cost. Also, the wavebox needs to stick out of the water about 3/4".

I would suggest 2 6205 and the 7096 controller, this way you an try wave function but it likely isn't going to work out as the wave required to produce any appreciable amount of flow will be too high for your tank and spill over the edge. You can then use the 6205 as more conventional flow pumps that would pulse between speeds and alternate between pumps and still keep detritus from accumulating in most areas.
