tunze recirc pump 1073.020

I was thinking of using this pump to feed 3 items:

1) chiller ~300 gph
2) skimmer ~100 gph
3) ozone reactor ~50 - 75 gph + carbon filter (inline with ozone reactor)

Minimal head loss from plumbing but considerable back pressure from ozone reactor + carbon filter. The ozone reactor is pressurized and uses a Coralife pressure rated air pump.

Can the tunze pump handle this job? The larger model 1073.040 is considerably more expensive.

From my experience it is a bad idea to feed a skimmer from anything but its own pump, there is too much inconsistency in flow as valves and tubing clog and as the pressure in the ozone reactor changes and this results in inconsistant skimming and increased risk of overflow. I would need more info on the backpressure and tubing size of the ozone reactor and carbon filter. I would feed the skimmer with 1073.008 if it is in sump with very little head pressure.

Hey Roger, the skimmer is recirculating and is not the primary skimmer for the system and is used as a second reaction chamber for the ozone ... but actually I'm thinking of not using it at all at this point. So really I'm looking to see if the tunze can handle the ozone reactor + carbon filter, then the chiller.

The ozone reactor uses 1/2" silicone tubing, as does the carbon filter. The carbon filter is spongeless. As for backpressure, the air/ozone will be injected with a Coralife Luft pump which is rated at 7.0 psi and 4.0 lpm. I was planning to run the air pump at maybe 50%.

The chiller uses 3/4" tubing.

I think at a minimum, figuring that the inside of a chiller alone is typically equal to 2ft of head pressure you will need one 1073.040. The 1073.040 does about 450-500gph at 4ft of head, I would guess this set up is roughly equal to 4-5ft of head pressure. A 1073.020 will only do about 250-300gph in this head pressure range.

Ok thanks I guess I'll have to pay the extra $$ for the 1073.040 then.
