Tunze Recirculation Pump 1073.040 making noise

My new Tunze Recirculation Pump 1073.040 is making humming noise.
My tank is in the living room, and beside the water falling to the sump,
and skimmer sound, even with the door of cabinet closing, I still can hear it's humming.
I dissemble it and then reasemble it, nothing changed.
Is it because it's new or someting else?

Mine only hums if it is vibrating against the sump or something in the sump. Is it securely suctioned flat to the bottom of the sump?

It shouldn't make a loud noise, the causes could be the following,

Excessive restriction of the intake or output if the tubing is smaller than 1/2"

Something in the pump from shipping.

Impeller is damaged or out of balance- look for chips in the shaft

Bushing is not fully pushed in the sockets at the top and bottom

Impeller is wrong, a 50 Hz impeller is black, 60Hz is white, your impeller blades should be white.

The good news is the only possibilities are the plumbing or the impeller, if it is the impeller let me know and we will send a replacment.

I bought it from marinedepot. the impeller is white, and I check blade,
they all are free of chips, my output is 5/8" tubing.
I even test it without any tubing attach on it, it's still humming.
I suspend it in the middle of wate and it stop humming,
when i put it in the bottom of the tank, it starts humming again.
So it's there any way I can stop humming? By puting something under the pump, maybe?

Do you have the suction cups on, that should be enough but there is no reason you couldn't put a rubber pad under it.

I put the suction cups on it, maybe just not enough, I will find some rubber pad under it to try. So what kind of rubber pad do you recommended.
where can I find it? I live in canada by the way.

thanks

An old mouse pad or the sheet rubber they sell at auto parts stores for making your own gaskets, either would work.

Yes, the red auto gasket rubber is silicon and the mouse pad is neoprene usually, both are safe.

From a fellow Canuck.... head over to Canadian Tire- kitchen area and grab one of the silicon ( blue ) hot pads ( they are ribbed )...less than $10 bucks and it is probably large enough to cut in half for future projects/pumps.

I went the canadian tire yesterday, but they don't have those, neither
in the automobile area or kitchen area. I asked the staff working in there. they didn't know either. Could you have the picture of them, so next time I can show them the picture of those?

Sorry, don't have a camera handy to take the shot, and both mine are in use.
They must be out of stock because I got my second one just before Xmas, and it was in the kitchen utensils section. ( they had a lot of blue silicon stuff like oven mitts, etc ) You can try Zellers or Walmart, both of them should have the same basic stuff.

Almost without exception, auto parts stores carry sheets of red silicon rubber to cut out gaskets from, In the US Auto Zone and NAPA stores always have small gasket kits from permatex with a section of cork and a section of silicon rubber.

I went to canadian tire which is a big auto part chain store in canada,
but no luck with the store near my house, I will go to another store
to try later.

I bought the silicone pad today, and I put it under, but same thing,
there is still humming sound coming out from pump.
I can even hear from 20 feet away.
I put my tank in the main floor, and I can even heat it humming in basement through the floor.
The humming sound is not aloud, but keep annoying me,
I felt headache when I keep hearing after 10 mins.

Does anybody have same experience? I mean tunze should be dead silence, am I right?
I read a lot of review online and I finally decide to choose this pump.

I hope what I got is the defect one, I really love Tunze productions.

Today, It's not only making humming sound, but also the clicking sound.
I dissembled it, and then reassemble it, nothing improved.

I just started running my 1073.040, and it hums pretty loud with the suction cups on it and suspended. I was going to try the silicone, but you said it didn't make a difference, right? I am using 3/4" id vinyl tubing...

I am using 3/4" id vinyl and then reduce to 5/8" vinyl tubing.
the silicone pad didn't make any difference.
I even try without any tubing on it, it's still humming.
I can even hear it humming in the basement through floor right uder the tank.
Now it's the loudest equipment in the system, even a lot of louder than my skimmer.

I hope Roger will come back soon to tell me it's the defect one.
Because I really love Tunze production, I used Tunze nano skimmer,
and ATO before, they are all gorgeous stuff.
