Tunze Recirculation Pump Silence Electronic 1073.050

I was thinking about picking up a 1073.050 pump.
One of the reasons is the variable flow. But in some of the pictures I've seen on different web sites show the pump and just a power brick and some show the pump and a small controller.
Which is it?
If it's just the pump and the power brick, how is the pump controlled? I don't use a Apex.

In early 2016 they changed from just a connector for a DIN cable and a potentiometer to the 7090.200 controller. There are pros and cons to each. The 7090.200 is very nice on its own but it has no DIN connection so connecting to another controller is not possible, it allows you to set speed and has a food timer. On the older set up, you can connect to an APEX and you can also just use the potentiometer to set speed. If you want to connect a newer one to an APEX, the controller has to be replaced with 7090.500, it has more features and has a DIN port.
