Tunze skimmer in 75 gal reef

Roger,

I was wondering if you could give me some idea of how a 220/3 or 3115/2 would compare to a urchin pro. Both skimmers seem to have good reputations and are about the same price. In your opinion what are pros and cons of the Tunze.

The Urchin is a good skimmer. I would choose the Tunze for the following reasons.

The skimmer cup will shut down the foam column when full- no overflows.

The pump uses far less electricity and generates almost no heat.

The skimmer is nearly silent when properly installed.

The only two drawbacks I can think of is the Urchin will outperform at particulate removal and the Urchin will work more consistently if the water level is not stable. Tunze skimmers require a method of maintaining an exact water level- whether through an auto top off or a baffle system.

Roger,
Thanks for your unbiased answer. I wished everyone would give honest answers about their products when comparing them to others. Thanks again.

No problem. I really have nothing to gain by lying to you and making you unhappy. I have kept aquariums for quite sometime and so i know that it is hard to get an honest answer and their is a lot of junk out there.
