Tunze stream and seacucumbers

Finally got and installed two tunze stream 6000 and a multicontroller in my 325 liter(aprox 80 gallon) tank yesterday. Amazed by the amount of water they move and the all the posibilities in the multicontroller.

Theres two seacumbers in the tank so i've used prefilter sponges on the powerheads. Is it safe to use the stream pumps without covering the intake in any way?

I would suppose there is some risk but it seems like a small one and I think it would be safest to use pulse mode so neither pump ever turns off and gives them a chance to enter.
