Tunze Stream selection help ?

DownUnder-Reefer

New member
I am setting up a 6x2x2 (180gal) reef tank that will be predominately softies with LPS and some SPS and a clam and will have a DSB.

My return will be 6500 L/h.

Other fellow reefers on an Australian forum are recommending that I have the tank drilled for a closed loop, whilst it is being made. Others recommend a Tunze stream.

I have read about the 6060 and 6080 models and wonder if a pair of these in each corner (either the 6060 or 6080) would be the way to go for the 6 foot tank?

The kits with the controllers are out of my price range.

Can you (or anyone) give me some advice please?

i've got two of the Stream 6100's in my 180g and think they are the best thing ever, i'll never drill a closed loop again. i have them on the 7094, with a flip of a switch every few days i can keep a constantly changing flow pattern in the tank.

if $$$ is a problem you can get the pumps without the controller and pick it up when $$$ premits.

I just put one 6100 on the single controller on my 240 gal and it is awesome. Took a little work to mount it on a standard tank without eurobracing. Fish seem to like the new flow. I think two of this caliber would be really cool on my tank, but I think one would be great for you

Thanks for the replies, I have just done the sums and the cost of a large pump (and ongoing electricity) and plumbing and drilled holes make the Tunze more affordable.

So I'm going to take the plunge and go for the 2 Turbelle stream 6100 + Multicontroller 7094.

I think that it will also be more beneficial being able to easily change the pump output rather than being stuck with the closed loop outlets.

Is the controller easy to use? Where have you got it mounted?

Do you often turn the output up and down?

Thanks Again,

Jimmy

One other thing I should ask, would it be better to have two 6100's on single controllers (for some reason its cheaper) or have the two off a multi controller?

Its not that its cheaper, I just thought that maybe it might be better, sort of like a failsafe if one breaks the other side is still working, hope that makes some sort of sense!

go with the 7094 multi controller, it has way more options for water flow. IMO they are easy to control/setup/adjust. as for the turning them up/down the 7094 will pulse them at settings between 30% and 100% at set (adjustable by you) intervels (pulse mode). you can also have them turn on/off in steps (building wave) or alternate (tide mode)

be aware...they will blow a lot of sand around if they aren't close enough to the top or your live rock doesn't block some of the flow. Have fun, they are a cool pump.

If the controller fails the pumps will work without it and short of getting wet they don't fail. I would agree with the TS24 more options and not much more expensive than 2 single controllers instead of the multicontroller.

Roger, I'd like to build a multi-stream system, but can't do it all at once.

I assume that 2x6000 would work well for a 120 (4x2x2) 'SPS' tank.

I'd like to start with one pump, then buy a controller, then the second pump.

Please reply with any advice and with part numbers.

No problem, the 6000 is just part 6000.000, the multicontroller is 7094.000. Odds are pretrty good that when you get yours the new long screw sets and all the holkder options will be included so no extra parts will be needed.

Jeez, I need to get some sleep by the looks of my spelling the past few days. I really do have a college degree, LOL!
