Tunze System

RBU1

Moving on Up
I am considering the purchase of a Tunze Stream. I need some help getting the best system for my tank. I have a 75 gallon tank with about 90 pounds of live rock. I currently have some LPS, softies and SPS but will be adding more SPS in the near future. My current pumps are a Mag 9.5 for my overflow return and two seio's a 620 and a 820 for inside the tank flow. My situation is the tank is set up as a room divider so all my powerheads are on the one small side of the tank. If I add a Tunze system to my tank it will also have to stay on the smaller side of the tank. I would like to get some opinions on the setup that will give me the best results. THANKS BILL

The ideal would be a 6000 on each side and alternate between them but since that isn't an option one 6000 with a 7091 would be more flow than you have and would likely be satisfactory in all aspects except detritus accumulation which will be aggrevated by the more static flow from one pump. Maybe you can use your return to help with this.

Thanks Roger but I am not sure I follow you about the detritus. I mainly need clarification on handling it with my return pump. If you think that system will be the best I will get it. Is that one of the units everyone is talking about not being able to get? THANKS AGAIN BILL

Any time all of your flow comes from one side you get eddies and currents which trap detritus in areas. The only way around this is to switch flow directions. If you could run a Sea Swirl on your return it would probably help greatly.

Gotcha thanks Roger. OK I will be ordering the kit you reccomended before my wife gets home!!!!!!!! I looked at the sea swirl and don't think it will work with my canopy. I did see some product called a SCWD "squid" are you familiar with those? Will that help my situation out? I assume it will go on the return line on my overflow box????? THANKS AGAIN Bill

The SQWD just switches between two returns, you would have to install a second return. I like the Seaswirl more, it would require you to cap the return you have and just run the return to the seaswirl which would clamp to the back of the tank.

OK I don't think the Sea Swirl will fit in my canopy. I have no way to clamp it on the plastic trim that goes around the tank. I just inquired about the kit you reccomended looks like I can't get it till March 31. Any suggestions about who may have them in stock???

It is highly unlikely anyone will have it in stock but I don't think it will take that long, they are just being cautious. I am supposed to get a fairly large shipment of 6000's next week, not enough to put them in stock but maybe enough to cover all the existing backorders.

Reef Exotics has the 6000's in stock. And they have the magnet holders as well. I ended up buying my magnets there since no one else had a stock of them to mount my Comline equipment.
